Tai Ping Hou Kui, also known as "Monkey Chief Peace", is an exquisite green tea from China with a long-standing tradition and exceptional reputation. It originates from the village of Houkeng, in the Tai Ping region near the scenic Huangshan Mountains in Anhui Province.
The area where this tea is cultivated is mountainous and lush, filled with natural springs and mist-covered valleys—ideal conditions for the tea plant. The tea garden where this quality of Hou Kui is grown lies at an altitude of 600–800 meters above sea level. All of this contributes to a unique microclimate that allows for slow growth and a high concentration of aromatic compounds in the leaves.
The leaves are hand-picked in spring 2025 and consist exclusively of young shoots with one top bud and the first and second leaf. The shoot is gently pressed flat, giving the tea leaves their distinctive appearance, with a length of up to 6–7 cm.
Often listed as one of China’s ten famous teas and cultivated since the Ming Dynasty, Tai Ping Hou Kui is sought after by tea lovers all over the world.
The infusion is delicate, with a soft floral aroma, a light sweetness, and very low bitterness, along with a subtle but long-lasting aftertaste – an experience for both new and seasoned tea drinkers.
Single Batch
This Hou Kui is an exclusive single batch selected by our tea master, and only 20 kg are available, and will therefore only be available at our shop near Nørreport Station, Copenhagen, on our online store, and at our KaDeWe location in Berlin, Germany.
Brewing Instructions
To highlight the tea's optimal aroma and flavor nuances, we recommend a steeping time of about 2 minutes, with an additional 20–30 seconds for each further brew after the first, allowing for 3–5 infusions in total. Shorter or longer steeping times may be used depending on preference, but it should be noted that too long a steeping time may result in a bitter and dry aftertaste.
The ideal water temperature is between 70–80 °C.
