"People's Tea"
Genmaicha is a so-called Japanese "whole grain rice green tea" consisting of green tea (Bancha) mixed with roasted popped brown rice. It is sometimes colloquially referred to as "popcorn tea" because a few of the rice pops in the roasting process, thereby reminiscent of popping popcorn. Tea is also referred to as the tea of the people, due to the fact that rice used to be a filling, thus making the expensive tea cheaper and thus accessible to the poorer Japanese. Today, all social segments in Japan drink Genmaicha tea
Genmaicha was also used during religious fasting periods where the nutty flavor of the rice combined with sugar and starch meant that the tea provided fullness and satiety.
Taste
The taste is mild with a medium-heavy filling and combines the grassy aroma of the green tea with the taste of roasted rice. Genmaicha tea is very suitable for eg. sushi and wok dishes.
Brewing
It is recommended to brew the tea at 80 ° C with a brewing time of 3-4 minutes
